LEATHER PRIDE
You won't forget the alternating bands of Blue, Black and White along with a Red heart the Leather Pride Flag has to offer. It was first displayed at the 1989 Mr. Leather Contest in Chicago and was quickly adopted as a symbol of the Leather Community. Other groups including those with leather, Levis, S/M, bondage, uniform, cowboy, and rubber fetishes also fly the Leather Pride flag. |

PRIDE SYMBOLS: LAMBDA AND LABRYS
The lambda was originally chosen as a gay symbol because it was the Greek letter L, which stood for "liberation." In 1974 at the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland, representatives voted to adopt the lambda as the international symbol for gay rights. The Lambda is usually closely associated to activism and the struggle for equality. Labrys. An icon for lesbians, this double-edged sword or axe was a symbolic weapon of the Amazon women, an ancient community of warrior women who lived without men. |

PRIDE SYMBOLS: TRIANGLE
The pink triangle was once used by Nazi Germany to mark homosexual prisoners, similar to the way that Jews were marked by yellow Stars of David. Today, that symbol of oppression has been reclaimed by the gay community, and it represents our unity and solidarity, and our pride in ourselves. Other colors of triangle including Black for Lesbian Pride and Purple for Bisexual pride are also worn throughout the community. |
