"Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts.
And never hope more than you work." - Rita Mae BrownOutrageous, entertaining, and always hilarious, Rita Mae Brown is one of the most distinctive writers in the USA today. Born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, Brown was abandoned as an infant, starting life in an orphanage until she was finally rescued by relatives. Raised in Florida, her early years were bleak. She was traumatized by poverty, and later, by the death of her adopted father, and closest friend, Butch. These early experiences had a profound influence on Rita Mae Brown as a writer. She endured, and went on to win a scholorship from a prestigious college, only to get kicked out for being a Lesbian and a civil rights advocate. Moving forward, Brown became involved in the early Gay Rights Movement as an organizer. She continued her education, and has a degree in Classics and English from New York University, and a doctorate in Political Science from the Institute For Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. As a writer, her work is witty and captivating. She has co-authored a series of mysteries with her cat, Sneaky Pie. Sneaky Pie slyly fills in as narrator when Rita's not looking, and the reader enjoys a cat's spin on events. Other works include her bestselling novel, "Rubyfruit Jungle", "The Hand That Cradles The Rock", and "Songs To A Handsome Woman". Add several books of poems, eleven novels, a writers manual, and two Emmy nominations for her scripts "I Love Liberty" and "The Long Hot Summer.", and it's clear why Rita Mae Brown is one of the most prolific authors around.
